The exact nature of Freemasonry’s birth is not definitive. However the predominant belief is that it first arose during the middle-ages from The Stone Masons guild. In this, we can trace the symbols of Masonry.
From our sister country England we are in debt for inheriting our Brotherhood. In 1717 four Lodges of Masonry were opened in London. From here, 30 years later the popularity in the thirteen Colonies that would later become The United States of America had exploded.
Revolutionary Masons include George Washington, Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin, Patrick Henry, and John Hancock.
From that time Freemasonry has been a place where men could be allowed to focus on self-improvement, personal study and the social betterment of mankind.
By the late 1800’s to early 1900’s the charitable deeds and donations were well established. Founding shelters for widows and their children, the homeless and orphanages; where the need was the greatest. Some of the first public schools in America and Europe were supported by Masonic efforts.
Today through this unity through faith and morality that is known as Freemasonry, millions of dollars have been given to charities each year.
